Georgian Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili on Thursday highlighted a significant increase in Chinese corporate and institutional interest in investing in Georgia following the conclusion of a high-profile official visit by a Georgian government delegation to the People’s Republic of China.
In her remarks, Kvrivishvili said discussions during the visit focused on Georgia’s plans to develop its transport and logistics infrastructure and further strengthen economic cooperation with China.
“During our visit to China, we participated in the Global Sustainable Transport Forum, where, in my address, we spoke extensively about the importance of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, as well as the modernisation of the Georgian Railway”, she said.
“During the visit, we held very productive meetings with our counterparts, including the Minister of Transport, the Deputy Minister of Commerce, as well as major local corporations and companies operating in the transport, freight, port operations and energy sectors. During the visit, we saw that interest from China in investing in Georgia has increased significantly. I would particularly highlight the energy sector, as well as transport and logistics”, Kvrivishvili continued.
The Minister emphasised that the visit marked another step forward in deepening trade and economic ties between Georgia and the People’s Republic of China.
