Georgian Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said on Monday that Georgia was keen to become an integral part of the new China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan transport route while continuing to play a key role in connecting countries with European and other markets.
Kvrivishvili made the remarks following the 11th session of the Georgia-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, during which the two sides placed particular emphasis on transport, logistics and connectivity.
“We believe that we have a strong interest in ensuring that Georgia becomes an integral part of the new China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan transport route and continues to play a key role in connecting countries with European and other markets”, Kvrivishvili said.
She expressed confidence that cooperation in this area would deliver tangible results, particularly in light of Georgia’s significant investments in developing its transport and logistics infrastructure.
“Unprecedented levels of investment are being made in the railway sector, including its modernisation, with the aim of increasing Georgia’s existing rail freight capacity from 15 million tonnes to 29 million tonnes by 2029”, the Minister said.
