Georgian, Azerbaijani Defence Ministers discuss strategic cooperation

Strategic cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan was discussed on Thursday in a meeting between Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani and his Azerbaijani counterpart Zakir Hasanov, on the sidelines of the Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey Trilateral Defence Ministerial in Ankara.

Chikovani thanked Hasanov for supporting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Georgian Defence Minister highlighted the historical significance of the joint declaration signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington, which, according to him, would significantly contribute to the strengthening of long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus region.

Chikovani reaffirmed the Georgian side’s readiness to contribute to the development of regional cooperation.

He emphasised the cooperation with Azerbaijan in defence in both bilateral and trilateral formats.

Chikovani noted the unprecedentedly strong strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as the high level of political and economic cooperation.
