Kakha Kaladze, the mayor of Tbilisi and secretary general of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday congratulated football fans on holding the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Georgia.
In his remarks, Kaladze noted that hosting such a world-class tournament was a huge responsibility.
“Congratulations. For the first time in the history of independent Georgia, Georgia will host a world-class tournament under the auspices of FIFA in the form of the U-20 World Cup. Armenia will be the host country together with us. Hosting such a world-class tournament is a great honor, but also a great responsibility. I would like to thank the leaders of the Football Federation for their support of FIFA”, Kaladze said.
He further added that this was proof that the Georgian government was making great efforts in the direction of sports, including the development of football, as well as the creation of new infrastructure in cities and regions.
“In Tbilisi, together with the Football Federation, we have also implemented many important projects. New football schools have been created, which is necessary for our children”, he noted.
Kaladze emphasized that everything would be done in the future to strengthen this direction and create many similar sports complexes.
“Once again, I congratulate football fans on this important decision. I am sure that Georgia will provide a worthy host for the U-20 World Cup”, he concluded.
