New Patriarch’s enthronement to be held on May 12

The enthronement ceremony of the new Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia will take place on Tuesday, announced on Monday His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia and Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi Shio III.

According to the Patriarch, the divine service at Svetitskhoveli Cathedral will begin at 10:00 a.m.

“According to tradition, after the election, the Catholicos-Patriarch should serve on the first Sunday or major feast day. We decided that the nearest great feast is tomorrow - the commemoration of Saint Andrew the First-Called’s arrival in Georgia and the feast of Georgia’s special share bestowed by the Most Holy Mother of God. Therefore, the enthronement will take place tomorrow at Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. The service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Congratulations to all, and let us thank God for today”, the Patriarch said.

Shio III was elected Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia by the Holy Synod with 22 votes.
