Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Friday congratulated the citizens on Veteran's Day and thanked the veterans for defending the homeland in the most difficult times.
In his speech at an event dedicated to Veteran’s Day, Kavelashvili emphasized the importance of peace and freedom and added that the Government will do everything to ensure that the public always remembered and appreciated the invaluable contribution of veterans.
“My dears, first of all, happy Veteran's Day! On behalf of the Georgian people, we thank you very much for defending our homeland in the most difficult times. Today, which belongs to Georgian veterans, is another reminder that we must take special care of the values and worth that you heroically defended and continue to defend to this day”, the President said.
“We are a small but dignified and proud nation that knows the price of peace and freedom well. Our historical experience, centuries-old military victories, have also taught us well that for a Georgian man, these concepts are intertwined, because the fight for freedom also implies the fight for peace, and the protection of peace, in itself, also implies the protection of freedom. You know best the price of the peace and freedom we have gained, as well as the fact that maintaining this achievement requires daily vigilance and caution, which is an extremely difficult and long-term process. Georgia is a country of heroes, and you are one of the best examples of this. It is the duty of each of us to always remember your sacrifice”, he continued.
Kavelashvili paid tribute to the memory of the heroes who sacrificed their lives for their homeland and said it was the duty of the Georgian people to pass on knowledge of these heroes to future generations, as raising children with the right values and virtues, instilling in them a national spirit, was the main guarantee of Georgia’s bright future and strong sovereignty.
He further highlighted that one of the main priorities of the state was to stand by veterans.
“One of the main priorities of the state is to stand by your side, which has been proven by deeds for many years. Your contribution to the Georgian nation and public is invaluable, therefore, the public should always remember and appreciate your contribution, for which we will do everything. On behalf of the Georgian people, I once again congratulate you on Veteran's Day and express my deepest gratitude for your contribution to our homeland and nation. May God be the protector of our homeland and our people”, he concluded.
