One dead, one injured in residential building collapse in Tbilisi

At least, one person has died and another has been hospitalised following a building collapse in a residential area in Georgia's capital city of Tbilisi.

Geka Geladze, the Minister of Internal Affairs, stated that “at this stage, what I can confirm is that only one person has been transferred to the clinic; this person is conscious and receiving medical assistance”.

He added that “at this stage, we can also confirm that only one person has died”.

According to Geladze, emergency services and police units were dispatched to the scene immediately after the incident. An investigation has been launched under Article 240 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to violations of safety rules during construction or other works.

Search and rescue operations are currently underway at the site of the collapsed residential building.
