Georgian Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze on Tuesday attended the opening ceremony of the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva.
The Assembly - held under the theme All for Health, Health for All - was officially opened by the Director-General of the World Health Organisation Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Ghebreyesus highlighted Georgia’s public health achievements, particularly efforts in tobacco control and the successful campaign to eliminate malaria. He also praised the country’s progress in achieving malaria-free status.
During the opening event, the WHO Director-General formally presented Minister Sarjveladze with a certificate recognising Georgia as a malaria-free country - a status officially granted to Georgia by WHO in early 2025.
Minister Sarjveladze is scheduled to deliver an address during the Assembly.
As part of his visit, bilateral meetings are planned with key figures, including Dr. Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, as well as other high-level officials.
