The ruling Georgian Dream party is commemorating Victory Day by posting congratulatory cards on social media with the message: “Congratulations on Victory Day over Fascism”.
Today marks Victory Day - 80 years since the end of World War II. On May 8, 1945, Nazi Germany officially capitulated, bringing the war in Europe to an end. The following day, May 9, was declared Victory Day over Fascism.
Georgia made a significant contribution to the war effort. Around 700,000 Georgians were mobilized during World War II, and tragically, half of them never returned home.
Victory Day continues to be a day of remembrance and reflection across the country.
