Imedi TV celebrates its 22nd anniversary, marking over two decades of broadcasting in the Georgian media landscape. Founded by Badri Patarkatsishvili, the TV channel first went live on March 15, 2003.
Imedi TV, one of Georgia’s most prominent broadcasters, was the first television network in Georgia to broadcast licensed productions, setting a new standard in the industry.
Over the years, it has established itself as one of the most trusted and highly rated channels in the Georgian television and radio space.
However, Imedi’s journey has not been without challenges. The channel faced significant hardships under the former United National Movement Government, with political events in Georgia’s recent history leaving a direct impact.
It was Imedi TV that first brought the truth about the Sandro Girgvliani case to the public. On November 7, 2007, a peaceful protest was violently dispersed, and that evening, special forces stormed Imedi’s headquarters. The station was raided, equipment was destroyed, and broadcasting was shut down.
Shortly after these events, the channel was seized from its rightful owners and placed under Government control. It was only in 2012, following a change in Government, that Imedi TV was returned to its owners and the public. In recent years, Imedi TV has transitioned to a stable 24-hour broadcasting schedule.
Nowadays, Imedi TV offers viewers high-rated shows and engaging programs in the highest quality digital resolution. According to data from both rating agencies operating in Georgia, Imedi remains the unrivaled, unprecedented, and undisputed leader in the country’s television landscape.
