Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday attended a civil funeral service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral for those repatriated from the Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia who had gone missing during the armed conflicts of the 1990s.
Kobakhidze, together with President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and members of the executive and legislative authorities of the country, offered condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased, the Government Administration said.
The remains of six identified individuals - five military personnel and one civilian - were repatriated through the cooperation of the Office of the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Two of the fallen soldiers will be buried with military honors at the Dighomi Brothers’ Cemetery, while the others will be laid to rest in family cemeteries according to the wishes of their relatives.
