Levan Zhorzholiani, the Head of the Georgian Government Administration, on Friday announced significant progress in disaster recovery efforts in the country’s western Guria region, emphasising that 80 percent of the main municipal roads had already been cleared.
Speaking to journalists, Zhorzholiani highlighted the substantial progress in restoring electricity supply. Initially, 35,000 subscribers were affected by the outage caused by the heavy snowfall. Yesterday, power was restored to nearly 29,000 customers. Additionally, more than half of the affected households have regained access to gas supply.
“We have several priority areas, and specific tasks are assigned during our headquarters meetings at the beginning of the day. Reports are then reviewed at the end of the day. We have made serious progress in restoring electricity. At the start of the disaster, 35,000 customers were without power. By yesterday morning, over 24,000 had been reconnected, and by the end of the day, an additional 4,800 were restored. We are making good progress in this regard”, the Head of the Government Administration said.
He also noted that in many villages, access had been restored up to central areas, allowing direct communication with residents and facilitating the delivery of essential supplies such as food and medicine if needed.
“In terms of gas supply, 1,300 subscribers were initially disconnected, and more than half have already been restored. We expect even better dynamics and results today. All available resources have been mobilized, and our response efforts are being carried out with proper coordination and efficient management”, Zhorzholiani concluded.
