Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Thursday said all relevant agencies, both at the central and local levels, were mobilised to address the issues caused by the heavy snowfall in the country’s western regions “as quickly as possible”.
In a social media message, Kavelashvili noted that “as soon as snow clearing operations are completed, work will begin to restore electricity and gas services for residents who are currently without these essential utilities due to the recent snowstorm”.
“I held a meeting in the city of Kutaisi with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, members of the Cabinet of Ministers, and the leader of the parliamentary majority Mamuka Mdinaradze, alongside representatives from the coordination staff. I was briefed on the challenges created by the heavy snowfalls in the Imereti region and the measures being taken to resolve them”, the Georgian President said.
The President emphasised that snow clearing efforts were actively ongoing in the Imereti region, with a few villages still inaccessible. During the meeting, a decision was made to deploy additional specialised equipment to accelerate the process.
