Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, along with President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, on Sunday paid tribute to the memory of the Junkers (cadets) who lost their lives in the 1921 battle of Kojori-Tabakhmela against the Russian army.
Kobakhidze adorned the memorial dedicated to the Junkers' memory located in the yard of the Parliament with a wreath of garland.
“Today is Junkers' Remembrance Day. They are heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence and the fight for liberty. It is our duty to pass on their heroism to future generations. The heroism of such individuals played a crucial role in securing the independence of our country, and it is our responsibility to honour their memory”, the PM said.
The Government head also attended a memorial service for the fallen Junkers at the Church of Annunciation in Parliament, further emphasising the importance of preserving the legacy of those who fought for Georgia’s freedom.
