Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday inaugurated a new 3.5-kilometre biathlon trail in Bakuriani, highlighting the country's commitment to developing winter sports infrastructure.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze emphasised that everything was ready “at the highest level” for the upcoming Olympic Winter Festival.
“The development of winter sports in our country is very important. Winter sports are slightly behind summer Olympic sports. This new infrastructure will enable us to develop winter sports as fast as possible, also allowing us to achieve greater success in this field. The new infrastructure is also important in terms of allowing for holding many other competitions in our country”, the PM said.
The Government head thanked the National Olympic Committee, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, and all stakeholders for their role in successfully completing the project.
The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure oversaw the construction of the biathlon and cross-country skiing trail.
The project was fully financed by the state budget, with a total investment exceeding $6.33 million.
