The Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia on Saturday announced that construction of the third, 12-kilometre section of the Samtredia-Grigoleti Highway has been completed.
The first 6-km portion of the third section between Lanchkhuti and Lesa opened at the end of 2025, and the remaining 6 km has now been commissioned.
The project comprised the construction of a four-lane asphalt-concrete road, six bridges, two interchanges, livestock crossings, and access roads linking the corridor to local road networks.
As a result, traffic has now been opened on 42.5 kilometres of the 52-kilometre Samtredia-Grigoleti Highway.
Currently, 42.5 km are operational, with the remaining 9.5 km (first section) scheduled for completion in 2027.
The Samtredia-Grigoleti Highway is an important part of the international E60 route. The newly opened section runs through the Guria region, including Lanchkhuti and surrounding villages, significantly improving connectivity in western Georgia.
Once the entire project is completed, the highway is expected to increase road capacity, improve traffic safety, reduce travel times and vehicle operating costs, and make international transit more efficient.
The third section was financed by the Georgian state budget and a loan from the European Investment Bank at a cost of GEL 324.6 million.
