Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday responded to a journalist’s question regarding a poll commissioned by the opposition Lelo party, stating that the actual picture of public support was far more favourable for the ruling Georgian Dream party.
“We know what the real numbers are. Our party’s nationwide result significantly exceeds 60%”, Kobakhidze said.
According to him, the opposition-commissioned surveys are rarely published because doing so would require them to acknowledge their defeat in advance.
“In Tbilisi, our party’s result is around 55%, and it may even reach 60%. As for Kakha Kaladze’s [Tbilisi Mayor] approval rating, it stands above 65%. Under such circumstances, it is very difficult for them [the opposition] to release these polls”, the PM continued.
Kobakhidze also added that ruling party-commissioned surveys indicate a decisive advantage across the country.
“According to our research, we are winning with a large margin in all 64 municipalities. That is why it is logical that they [the opposition] choose not to publish their surveys”, he concluded.
