Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, said on Friday that Italy was one of Georgia’s key supporters within the European Union, including amid the complex process currently shaping Georgia’s relations with the bloc.
Samkharadze said the issue was among the main topics discussed during meetings held as part of the Georgian delegation’s working visit to Rome, led by Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
He also highlighted a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Cyprus, describing the discussion as particularly interesting.
“Italy is one of our major supporters within the European Union, including during the very challenging process we are currently navigating in our relations with the EU. Consequently, we also discussed this matter”, Samkharadze said.
“We also met with the Speaker of the Parliament of Cyprus. It was an interesting discussion, given that Cyprus is a country that has successfully joined the European Union”, he concluded.
