Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, on Wednesday said Moldovan Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu should first address allegations that his country’s President had openly supported a coup d’état in Georgia before commenting on the country.
Responding to Grosu’s suggestion that the Georgian authorities envied Moldova’s progress towards European integration, Kadagishvili said Georgia’s statements in response to comparisons made by the European Commissioner were not directed against Moldova.
“When the European Commissioner presents Moldova as a country that is ahead of Georgia, we naturally make relevant statements, but not against Moldova”, Kadagishvili said.
He added that Grosu should assess the allegations concerning the Moldovan President before making remarks about Georgia.
“Let him comment on this first and assess it, and only then speak about Georgia. Georgia has never envied Moldova, does not envy it now, and will not do so in the future. Let them ask their own citizens how satisfied they are”, Kadagishvili concluded.
