Archil Gorduladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, on Wednesday dismissed the Venice Commission’s opinion as having no value, claiming it was being used by television channels controlled by the Collective National Movement party and what he described as the politicians behind them.
Gorduladze made the remarks while commenting on the commission’s opinion, accusing it of interfering in Georgia’s internal affairs and questioning its approach to evaluating Georgian legislation.
According to Gorduladze, the Venice Commission has no mandate to determine the shape of Georgia’s political landscape or environment.
“Their function is to assess a specific law from a legal perspective, but they have shifted to making political assessments that directly align with the positions voiced by every member of the Collective National Movement”, Gorduladze said.
