Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, said on Tuesday that the Georgian Government was ready to engage in dialogue with Brussels based on mutual respect and respect for each other’s interests.
Makhashvili was responding to remarks by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, who said that “the Georgian people want a European future, yet the Georgian Dream systematically deprives them of it”.
In his response, Makhashvili argued that Brussels’ misguided foreign policy had driven the European Union into a dead end, and that it was now seeking a way out.
“We are ready for dialogue based on mutual respect and respect for each other’s interests. When the European Union is ready for this, it knows where to find the Georgian Government”, the official said.
“We will always be where we are needed, for the sake of Georgia, Europe and peace, both in this region and on the European continent. Everything else is mere political speculation and noise, an attempt to wriggle out of the situation into which the European Union has been led. Brussels’ misguided foreign policy has driven the EU into a dead end, and now Brussels is trying to find a way out of it”, he concluded.
