Tornike Paghava, the Deputy Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, on Sunday criticised Paweł Herczyński, the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, over what he described as the diplomat’s “very lenient stance” towards violent protests in France.
In his remarks, Paghava recalled Herczyński’s “excessive reaction” to similar events in Georgia in 2024, arguing that the contrast highlighted the political interests of EU officials in the country.
He added that these interests were aimed at undermining and casting a shadow over the sovereign course pursued by the Georgian Government.
“The public remembers very well Mr. Paweł Herczyński’s extreme reaction to the dispersal of violent protests in 2024, and clearly sees his, to put it mildly, very lenient stance towards similar events in France. First and foremost, this indicates that the Euro-bureaucracy and the individuals within it who deal with Georgia have a political interest in the country”, Paghava said.
“Their political interest lies in undermining and casting a shadow over the sovereign course chosen by the Georgian Government and in somehow keeping the radical opposition, which is actively fighting against the Georgian state and Georgian sovereignty, on life support. Of course, I can assure you that, ultimately, they will not succeed”, he concluded.
