Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said on Friday that Brussels was either incompetent for offering the Georgian Government advice that would harm the country or was deliberately making such demands with malicious intent.
Papuashvili argued that Georgia’s economic progress and security were the result of the Government’s refusal to follow what he described as Brussels’ harmful advice.
“We are experiencing economic growth as a result of the Georgian Government’s declared economic policy. Our policy is to disregard the harmful advice offered by Brussels. It is our very stubbornness, our refusal to heed the counsel Brussels provides, that has saved us”, the Speaker said.
“The question now arises: is Brussels simply incompetent for offering advice that would cause us harm, or is it acting maliciously by deliberately demanding things that would damage us? Neither scenario reflects well on Brussels. However, it highlights the fortunate fact that the people currently in power are not those who would have acceded to every one of Brussels’ demands. Our economic progress and security are driven by the fact that we do not follow Brussels’ harmful advice”, he concluded.
