Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, said on Wednesday that the Georgian Government’s key priority at every Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly is to promote the non-recognition of Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories and raise awareness of the issue of occupation.
In his remarks, Samkharadze said the Georgian Government uses the IPU platform specifically to advance these issues.
He added that during a meeting with the Speaker of the UK Parliament, the Georgian delegation would discuss the development of bilateral relations.
“We will also discuss other issues during the meeting with the Speaker of the UK Parliament, including the development of bilateral relations. We will also discuss the development of trade and economic relations with other Asian countries, as well as cooperation within international organisations”, Samkharadze said.
As part of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili is scheduled to meet with speakers of parliaments from different continents on Wednesday.
Alongside efforts to deepen bilateral relations, the Georgian delegation will discuss the importance of maintaining the policy of non-recognition of Georgia’s occupied territories.
