Irakli Kadagishvili, Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, said on Tuesday that Georgia and the ruling political team would not seek to use the developments in France for political gain, adding that he wished peace for the country.
Kadagishvili’s comments came as large-scale protests involving school students and their supporters were planned across France on Tuesday. Organisers have called for demonstrations in support of students demanding increased funding and improved conditions in the education sector.
The French Prime Minister announced measures last week to address problems in schools, but trade unions have said the government has offered them “nothing concrete”.
Kadagishvili said that, under the current circumstances, neither Georgia nor the ruling political team intended to speak triumphantly about the developments or use them for political PR, adding that he wished peace for France.
“Don’t wish others what you don’t want to happen to you. This is the situation in France today. We well remember when the French authorities, including together with the US [Biden] administration at the time, encouraged, supported and financially backed violent rallies here”, he said.
