Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday welcomed the decision of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers concerning interstate cases brought by Georgia against Russia, saying it reflected the Government’s efforts to protect the country’s national interests.
The Prime Minister said the messages conveyed by the Committee of Ministers demonstrated that the Government had properly safeguarded, and continued to safeguard, Georgia’s national interests.
“Such messages are important. The Government is doing its utmost to protect our national interests. We won two highly significant court cases in The Hague and Strasbourg. These kinds of messages reflect the fact that our Government has properly ensured, and continues to ensure, the protection of our national interests”, he said.
Kobakhidze noted that the occupation of Georgian territories remained one of the country’s major national challenges and required a consistent and appropriate policy response.
“Occupation is one of our major national challenges, and it is necessary to maintain a clear and appropriate policy, as well as our red lines. The Government will continue to ensure this in the future”, he added.
The Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers recently adopted decisions concerning the interstate cases brought by Georgia against Russia.
