Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Thursday that his government was delivering on its promise to voters to neutralise foreign agents in the country, adding that foreign agents in the country had been weakened.
Kobakhidze said the developments were a continuation of processes that had unfolded in the country following the 2024 parliamentary elections.
“Representatives of the opposition brought themselves into this situation. More precisely, their patrons brought the respective politicians into this situation. This is not actually an opposition at all. In reality, it is foreign agents, and foreign agents in Georgia are weakened today”, he said.
“The steps taken by the authorities played a decisive role in this, including the adoption of transparency legislation, the law on grants, and various other legislative acts, as well as the proper regulation of matters related to assemblies, and so on. All of this forced foreign agents to operate within the framework of the law, and ultimately, the opposition has been weakened within the framework of the law. This process must continue”, the Prime Minister continued.
Kobakhidze also stressed the importance of a constitutional lawsuit filed by the authorities seeking the prohibition of certain political parties.
“We have filed a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court seeking the prohibition of certain political parties, and it is very important that a state-oriented decision be made on this matter - a decision that most closely serves the national interests”, he said.
