Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream faction in Parliament, on Thursday described French President Emmanuel Macron’s invitation to the Georgian Prime Minister to attend the first International Space Summit as a positive step.
Speaking to journalists, Machavariani said that if other countries and Brussels follow Macron’s example, it would help accelerate the process of resetting relations between Georgia and the European Union.
“This invitation is very welcome. We should view it in a broader context. There was a period when Brussels was largely silent and seemed not to notice us on the map. It would be very good if they moved beyond that approach and faced reality, because just as Georgia needs the European Union, the European Union also needs Georgia, not least because of our unique geographical location. We can regard this invitation from President Macron as a positive step. If other countries and Brussels in general follow suit, it would be highly beneficial, as it would accelerate the process of resetting our relations”, he said.
According to the invitation, the summit will be co-chaired by France and Germany and will focus on key issues related to science, research, security, and defense in the space sector.
