Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the First Vice Speaker of the Parliament, on Tuesday said that there should be no consideration of Russian, EU, US, or Chinese interests if they are not related to Georgia’s specific tasks, emphasising the primacy of national interests as outlined by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
In his remarks, Volski clarified Georgia’s approach to European integration while rejecting external agendas he described as harmful.
“There should be no consideration of Russian interests, no consideration of the interests of the European Union, the United States, or China, if they are not related to your specific task”, he said.
The official explained that Georgia’s aspiration toward the European Union was based on the acceptability of its standards and its place within Western civilisation.
“The reason we strive for the European Union is that this union has certain standards that are acceptable to us; it is the path of Western civilisation, which is the only path to Georgia’s survival. That is why this wording was included in the Constitution. However, this does not mean that we should submit to the sick and malicious ideas and plans of [MEP] Yucnavičienė”, Volski concluded.
