Gia Volski, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and the First Vice Speaker of the Parliament, on Friday said that the recent xenophobic campaign was a deliberate attempt to undermine the country’s tourism sector and its reputation as a stable state.
Volski emphasised that these actions were calculated rather than purely emotional, designed to destabilise the economy and create widespread tension.
“The objective is to damage the tourism industry, to damage the overall image of a stable country, which allows Georgia to maintain steady economic growth indicators and generally to generate a level of tension that aligns with their demands to impose sanctions on Georgia, creating a negative environment overall. This is the primary goal of the xenophobic attack”, he said.
The official further added that the developments are not merely an emotional reaction but are part of a broader effort.
