Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani said on Tuesday that Georgia had a “reckless and treacherous” government in 2008, which, he said, led to the events that unfolded during the August war.
“In 2008, Georgia had a reckless and treacherous government, and that is why what happened happened. But as for our soldiers, these guys have always been ready, are ready and will be ready to defend their mission. Unfortunately, Georgia had a treacherous government and treacherous people in positions of power who had no understanding of what they were doing and acted recklessly”, Chikovani said.
According to the government’s assessment, the opposition is seeking to deflect attention from its own responsibility, including over a Council of Europe resolution that was supported by the United National Movement and which, the government claims, attributed responsibility for starting the war to Georgia and accused Georgian servicemen of war crimes.
