Irakli Cheishvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday accused the European Union, particularly France and its government, of applying “double standards” toward Georgia.
“While today’s Brussels, especially France and its government, accuses us of supposedly being under Russian influence and transporting sanctioned cargo, today we see that France and the European Union are, on the contrary, increasing their consumption of natural gas from Russia, and tomorrow perhaps their political relations will also be put in order”, he said.
Cheishvili made the statement in response to a report by German outlet WELT that European countries had increased their imports of liquefied natural gas from Russia.
“This is exactly the double standard - what they prohibit us from doing, they do themselves. For some reason, what is unacceptable for us is necessarily acceptable for them. This is exactly the double standard and the policy of arm-twisting toward Georgia, which is unacceptable to us”, Cheishvili concluded.
