Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, on Thursday said that any politician seeking to govern a state who justifies sacrificing their own country and population represents “the face of an irresponsible politician”.
In his remarks, Makhashvili noted that the domestic opposition had never acted in accordance with Georgia’s national interests and had always followed directives received from foreign countries.
“This is exactly what we have come to expect from this completely irresponsible so-called opposition. They are willing to sacrifice their own country and their own people in pursuit of some greater objective, and these statements demonstrate precisely that. Unfortunately, this so-called opposition has transformed into an ordinary political group that has absolutely no regard for its own country, national interests, or citizens”, Makhashvili said.
“The experience and examples of past decades clearly show that Georgia’s national interests were never their primary concern or guiding principle. Their decisions were always dictated by the geopolitical circumstances around them and by the directives they received”, he concluded.
