Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs on Monday reported that officers from the Central Criminal Police Department had detained six individuals on charges of illegally purchasing and possessing particularly large quantities of narcotic substances, facilitating drug trafficking, and cultivating narcotic plants.
The detainees include both Georgian and foreign nationals.
The investigation found that the suspects were involved in organised drug distribution schemes. They allegedly concealed narcotics at various locations intended for later sale, photographed the hiding places, and sent the images along with marked locations and GPS coordinates to prospective buyers.
During searches of the suspects’ persons and residences, as well as multiple other locations, law enforcement officers seized particularly large quantities of drugs prepared for distribution.
The confiscated substances included nearly one kilogram of cocaine, five kilograms of marijuana, up to five kilograms of cannabis plants, hashish, 520 LSD tabs, and 23 packages of mephedrone.
Investigators also seized materials used for packaging narcotic substances as evidence.
The investigation is underway under Articles 260, 260⁴ and 265¹ of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The offences are punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
