The State Security Service of Georgia on Saturday hosted a high-level ceremonial event to mark its 11th founding anniversary, celebrating the agency's vital role in maintaining national peace and stability.
The gathering featured addresses from Service Head Geka Geladze, President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
In his remarks, Geladze emphasised the profound historical significance of the institution and credited the government's pragmatic policies alongside the agency's proactive operations for successfully neutralising internal and external security risks.
He noted that, as a result of the government’s pragmatic policy and the effective work of the State Security Service, potential risks posed by destructive forces operating both inside and outside the country have been prevented in recent years.
“It is a special honour and at the same time an enormous responsibility to stand guard over state security and, through daily, tireless work, to serve that great cause which is called the protection of our country’s security. And this agency truly has a team distinguished by high professionalism, which conscientiously performs the duties entrusted to it and, by ensuring a safe environment, contributes to the democratic development of our country”, he said.
Geladze expressed gratitude to the employees of the Service for their professionalism, dedication and commitment to protecting Georgia’s security interests.
“I express great gratitude to you, the personnel of the State Security Service, for your worthy and loyal service to our country. It is a great honour for me to lead this strong institution and, together with you, to work every day to strengthen a peaceful and stable environment in Georgia”, Geladze noted.
During the ceremony, a moment of silence was observed in memory of State Security Service officers who lost their lives while performing their official duties.
As part of the event, Geladze awarded employees with departmental medals and badges in recognition of their professional achievements, conscientious service and contribution to national security.
