Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Thursday said that God, homeland, human dignity, fatherland, language, faith and the sanctity of family were the seven core values on which the modern Georgian state should be built.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kavelashvili noted that the current Government had the opportunity to develop the country based on these values.
“Above all, we believe in our homeland - our eternal homeland that has endured countless hardships and survived through the ages. I believe in eternal Georgia and in the Georgian people, who have endured all of this and learned from it. Today, we have the opportunity to develop our country on the foundation of these values”, he said.
The President explained the seven pillars combining the late Patriarch’s message of “God, homeland and human” with the legacy of Ilia Chavchavadze - “fatherland, language, faith and the sanctity of family”.
“These are the seven pillars, the values on which the modern Georgian state should stand. They are so fundamental that none of them can be neglected. Ignoring even one would undermine the whole. These are the values through which today’s Georgia and the Georgian nation have survived”, he noted.
Kavelashvili argued that some of these principles had been weakened amid today’s global challenges.
“We all admire Western Europe and its architectural monuments, but in many cases those buildings function as museums. We have preserved our heritage, and for us it remains a living tradition”, he added.
The President stressed that although Georgia had lost its statehood in the past, experienced fragmentation and at times faced severe demographic decline, a sense of homeland had remained deeply rooted among Georgians.
“The feeling of homeland must exist in our daily lives and in every profession”, Kavelashvili concluded.
