Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the Parliament, on Wednesday said the German side was aware that, despite past injustices, Georgia remained ready to turn the page and restore the partnership that had traditionally existed between the two countries.
In his remarks, Machavariani highlighted the role of Peter Fisher, the former German Ambassador to Georgia, in the deterioration of relations between Tbilisi and Berlin.
“Mr. Fischer deliberately damaged these relations. It could not have been a coincidence that after he left, the false information that had remained on the website for a year and a half was removed. However, we are not naive, and of course Mr. Fischer could not have acted independently. Everything was coordinated centrally. That said, much also depends on the individuals who carry out such instructions”, Machavariani said.
He added that the German authorities were aware of Georgia's position.
“The German side knows that, despite the injustices, we are ready to turn the page and restore the partnership that has always connected us with this country and its people”, he noted.
Georgia’s Ambassador to Germany is preparing to present his credentials to the German President, with the ceremony scheduled for Thursday.
The diplomat had been waiting several months to submit the credentials. Meanwhile, Germany’s Foreign Office has removed the incorrect information from its website that had identified Salome Zourabichvili as Georgia’s incumbent President.
