Archil Gorduladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs, on Wednesday discussed expectations for the reset of relations between Georgia and Germany, claiming that former German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer had undermined bilateral ties.
“Georgia and Germany have historically had very good relations, and former Ambassador Fischer was engaged in the systematic destruction of these relations. He merely had the title of Ambassador, but in reality, he had completely gone beyond all diplomatic frameworks and standards”, he said.
“It is important for Georgia to have an Ambassador in Germany, so that our country’s interests are properly represented before the German state and, at the same time, relations between the two countries develop in a way that reflects the interests of both the Georgian and German peoples”, Gorduladze concluded.
Georgia’s Ambassador to Germany is preparing to present his credentials to the President of Germany. The ceremony is scheduled to take place tomorrow. The diplomat had been waiting for the ceremony to be arranged for several months.
Alongside the scheduling of the ceremony for Aleksandre Kartozia to present his credentials to the German President, the page on the official website of Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, where Salome Zourabichvili was referred to as Georgia’s acting President, was removed.
