Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s response letter to the Georgian Prime Minister, stating that the new US administration is well positioned to reverse what he described as unjust decisions made by the previous administration against the Georgian state.
In his remarks, Kaladze noted that the Georgian Government remains fully committed to building a transparent and constructive friendship and partnership with the United States.
“Of course, we view this letter positively. We have repeatedly stated that the Georgian Government is ready to begin relations on a new page”, he said.
“We are completely transparent and ready for friendship and partnership. The unfair treatment Georgia faced under the previous administration was absolutely unacceptable to us. I am referring to the sanctions that were imposed without any explanation or justification. There were no grounds whatsoever for those sanctions - they were merely instruments of pressure and intimidation”, the Mayor continued.
Kaladze expressed confidence that the current US administration, led by President Trump, has the ability to swiftly reverse what he described as unjust decisions made by the previous administration against the Georgian state and the Georgian people.
“We are ready for friendship and cooperation. When we speak about partnership and strategic relations, the interests of both countries and both nations - the American people and the Georgian people - must, of course, be protected”, he concluded.
