Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Wednesday met with World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in Geneva.
The meeting focused on cooperation between Georgia and the WTO, as well as ongoing developments in international trade.
The parties discussed Georgia’s implementation of its WTO commitments, the country’s economic reform process, and the importance of advancing the multilateral trading system.
The sides underscored that Georgia’s 26-year membership in the WTO has made a significant contribution to the country’s economic modernisation, the alignment of its trade policy with international standards, and the establishment of a predictable environment for investment.
The discussion further covered Georgia’s transit potential and the growing importance of the Middle Corridor.
It was noted that trade facilitation reforms and infrastructure development further strengthen Georgia’s role in enhancing connectivity between Europe and Asia.
Kavelashvili reaffirmed Georgia’s readiness to continue active cooperation with the WTO and to support the strengthening of a free, fair, rules-based multilateral international trading system.
