Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday said the current US administration has the opportunity to correct what he described as the previous administration’s unfair treatment of the Georgian people through “simple decisions”.
Kaladze's comments came in response to statements made by former US Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly and former US Assistant Secretary of State David Kramer, whom he accused of representing the so-called deep state rather than serving the interests of the United States.
“These two individuals - Ian Kelly and David Kramer - are simply representatives of the deep state. We know exactly who they are. They serve not the United States, but the country’s informal rulers, which is a serious challenge in today’s world. As for relations with the United States, we remain optimistic. We have repeatedly stated that we are ready for cooperation and to begin a new chapter in our relations, because the approach of the Biden administration was absolutely unacceptable to us”, he said.
“The statements we heard were also completely unacceptable, as they contained nothing but lies and falsehoods. The current US administration has the opportunity to correct the unfair treatment of the Georgian people and the Georgian state through very simple decisions. Once again, I repeat that we remain optimistic and are ready to start our relations from a new page”, Kaladze concluded.
