Georgian Parliament Vice Speaker Giorgi Kakhiani on Thursday welcomed the appointment of Amy W. Diaz as the U.S. Chargé d'Affaires to Georgia, saying the decision reflected the positive momentum in bilateral relations under the new US administration.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Kakhiani expressed readiness to restore the strategic partnership that previously existed between Georgia and the United States..
“It is very welcome that the United States has appointed a Chargé d'Affaires to Georgia. Unfortunately, for quite some time after the previous ambassador left office, the United States had no ambassador in Georgia. We have repeatedly stated that our relationship with the United States is a priority and of the utmost importance”, he said.
“We have also expressed our readiness to restore the strategic partnership that previously existed between our countries. Unfortunately, under the previous administration, many actions complicated those relations. However, under the new administration, we are seeing a very positive dynamic reflected in a number of developments. I am confident that this decision is also part of that positive momentum”, Kakhiani noted.
