Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and Honorary Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Saturday expressed strong confidence in his party’s position, questioning the legitimacy of the opposition’s recent actions.
“We stand stronger than ever and have full control of the situation. How can it be possible that a party supported by 80 percent of the people could be overturned by just 10,000 people? It’s inconceivable”, Ivanishvili said.
He further accused the opposition of attempting to transfer political processes to the streets after suffering what he described as a catastrophic electoral defeat.
“Today I assure you — those who still love their homeland, the whole world envies Georgia. They are trying to drive us crazy, to provoke us, to create such unrest that we cannot hold on to power. But thankfully, once again, the wisdom of the Georgian people prevails. Look at the numbers. This is simply impossible”, he concluded.
Preliminary results from exit polls conducted for Georgia’s local self-government elections have been released. According to the survey, the ruling Georgian Dream party received the highest share of votes in the capital city of Tbilisi.
