Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Saturday said citizens were highly motivated to participate in the elections, with everyone striving to fulfill their civic duty on time.
A journalist asked Papuashvili to comment on the fact that, according to the latest data, voter turnout has exceeded 17%, which is slightly lower than during the 2021 elections.
“The 2021 elections were declared a referendum at the time and were conducted practically as parliamentary elections. The level of voter participation was comparable to that of parliamentary elections, so it’s difficult to compare. However, as of 10:00 a.m., today’s turnout even exceeded that of the 2021 elections, which in itself is an achievement”, the Speaker said.
He added that citizens’ motivation to vote demonstrates a strong sense of civic responsibility.
Regarding the current turnout, Papuashvili noted that participation was higher compared to the 2014 and 2017 local elections.
“I believe turnout will remain within this range, which will once again confirm how correctly our citizens think - that they stand on the side of democracy, not sabotage or violence”, he concluded.
