Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Saturday reported that as of 12:00 p.m., over 600,000 voters have already participated in the local self-government elections, noting that this figure surpasses voter turnout in both the 2014 and 2017 local self-government elections.
In her remarks, Botchorishvili stressed that the elections were proceeding in a peaceful environment, which she welcomed.
“We are pleased that the elections are taking place in a calm and peaceful atmosphere. Every voter has the opportunity to make their choice in a free, equal, and competitive environment. As you know, the Central Election Commission has released interim turnout data, showing that over 600,000 citizens have voted by noon”, she said.
“This turnout is higher than what was recorded during the 2014 and 2017 local self-government elections. According to sociological studies, the Georgian Dream is winning both the mayoral and city council races confidently in all municipalities. However, this should not lead to voter complacency. We urge all voters to remain highly active. Every vote matters for ensuring the peaceful and stable development of our country and for bringing more prosperity to every municipality, city, and village”, the Minister concluded.
