Speaking to journalists after casting his vote in the local self-government elections, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Saturday expressed confidence that the public would make a worthy choice, emphasising that Georgia was at the forefront of development and was recognised internationally for its progress.
“Everyone will go to the polls and make a worthy choice. I had the opportunity to speak with leaders of several countries. It is truly a point of pride that Georgia is among the leading nations in terms of development”, he said.
“I want our society to remain calm and peaceful. According to international assessments, Georgia is among the frontrunners in development by many indicators”, the President continued.
In response to a question from an opposition-leaning TV Pirveli journalist about whether US President Donald Trump had called him, Kavelashvili replied: “Why are you even standing here and asking me questions if you consider me illegitimate? Why are you doing this?”
The President reiterated his belief in the judgment of the Georgian people.
“I am speaking to my people, and I am confident they will make a worthy decision. I had the opportunity to speak with leaders of various countries. It is indeed a matter of pride that Georgia ranks among the leaders in developmental progress. The Georgian public also heard, for instance, the words of [Hungarian Prime Minister] Viktor Orbán, who stated that Georgia’s current reality is exemplary for this stage”, Kavelashvili concluded.
