The voting process is technologically modern and professionally administered, everything is well organised, said Barbara Szilvia Hegedűs, a member of the Hungarian Parliament and an international observer monitoring the ongoing local self-government elections in Georgia.
In her remarks, Hegedűs highlighted the efforts of the election organisers to ensure a democratic, fair, and competitive environment.
“As an observer, I can see that the organizers of the elections are making significant efforts to ensure a democratic, fair, and free electoral process in a transparent and competitive environment. It is very encouraging to witness citizens’ active participation and enthusiasm for voting”, she said.
Drawing from her own experience as a former local representative in Hungary, Hegedűs emphasised the importance of transparent leadership.
“In the past, I myself was a local representative in my country, and I believe it is important for society to have a transparent leader who truly represents the interests of their people. I think elections are a celebration of democracy. The voting process is technologically modern and administered at a professional level. Everything is well-organized”, she concluded.
Local self-government elections are taking place in Georgia, with citizens voting to elect municipal council members and mayors for a four-year term.
Georgians are casting their ballots to select representatives to 64 local councils (Sakrebulo) and 64 mayors across the country.
A total of 28 international and 27 local observer organisations are monitoring today’s local elections in Georgia, while nearly 1,000 representatives from 73 media outlets are covering the process, the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) said.
