David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Thursday said the domestic radical opposition would face a heavy defeat in all 64 municipalities during the upcoming local self-government elections.
“A severe defeat awaits the radicals in all 64 municipalities. Regardless of the configuration in which the radicals are presented, and whatever scenario their patrons ultimately stage in Georgia, everyone who attempts to offer a proper contest to the Georgian people and the Georgian Dream through elections, in compliance with democratic principles, will naturally face a heavy defeat”, he said.
The local self-government elections in Georgia are scheduled for the first Saturday of October, which falls on October 4. Matikashvili's comments underscore the ruling party’s confidence ahead of the polls.
