The Anaklia Deep Sea Port project is of strategic importance for both Georgia and the wider region, Tamar Ioseliani, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, said on Wednesday.
Speaking on the project, Ioseliani said Georgia was developing the port under the so-called landlord model and highlighted strong international interest in the initiative.
“There is unprecedented interest in the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project. It should be noted that the state is implementing the project according to schedule. Construction works are currently underway at the site, including the construction of the breakwater and dredging operations. It is also important for Anaklia to be connected to the relevant transport infrastructure”, she said.
The Deputy Minister added that Georgian Railway had completed the design of the railway access line to the port.
“A market study has been launched to enable the announcement of a tender for the construction of the railway line by the end of October”, Ioseliani concluded.
