Georgia’s Deputy Economy Minister Genadi Arveladze on Wednesday said growing freight flows along the Middle Corridor offer Georgia an opportunity to develop a broader regional logistics and economic ecosystem.
Speaking at the 25th Ministerial Conference and Business Forum of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Arveladze emphasised the importance of moving beyond traditional transport corridors toward integrated economic corridors that connect infrastructure with trade, logistics, energy, digital connectivity, investment and broader economic activity.
“The opportunity lies in ensuring value creation along the corridors not only through the more efficient movement of goods and people, but also by attracting investment, developing logistics and industrial activities, creating jobs and connecting local economies with regional and global markets”, Arveladze said.
According to the Deputy Minister, a key priority is to develop multimodal logistics hubs and trade-supporting infrastructure around the existing transport network.
“The Middle Corridor, with its growing freight flows, offers Georgia an opportunity to develop a broader regional logistics and economic ecosystem. This includes strengthening rail, port and road connectivity, improving border procedures and creating conditions for the development of logistics, trade and investment activities along the corridor”, Arveladze noted.
He added that Georgia is making significant investments in developing its transport and logistics system.
Arveladze placed particular emphasis on the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, saying the project could create a stronger multimodal platform for trade, logistics and investment and help generate broader economic activity around the corridor.
“No single country can optimise the corridor independently. Georgia is ready to contribute to this process, particularly through the Middle Corridor and our role as a bridge between Central Asia, the Caspian region, the Black Sea and Europe”, he concluded.
